In the past year alone, Jennifer Lawrence won an Oscar, starred in the second installment of the blockbuster
Hunger Games
series, and became everyone's favorite imaginary BFF. She's
refreshingly candid, totally poised, and, thanks to a little help from
her stylist, Rachel Zoe, one of the most style-savvy ladies in the game. "I really would not call myself a fashion icon," she told E!.
"I would call myself somebody who gets dressed by professionals. [It's
like], 'Dance, monkey, dance' right on the red carpet.' I would call me
more of a monkey." LOL, girl, you so humble.
Even though she hasn't quite nailed down a signature look yet (unless, of course, you count her racks and racks of Dior
as a face of the brand), J. Law continues to kill it with risk-taking
gowns, two-pieces, and a variety of silhouettes. In honor of her MAY-JAH
year in both film
and fashion, we've rounded up our top 10 favorite J. Law style moments of 2013.
JANUARY 11

She doesn't often do graphic prints, but when she does, she does them
with really cool matching shoes. In January, back when most of us were
reluctantly pulling on parkas and sweater tights, Jennifer showed up at
the 2013 AFI Awards in BARE LEGS and a colorful, figure-flattering
sheath dress with metallic tweed stripes by
Prabal Gurung.
Her coordinating cap-toe pumps, which boasted a mirrored heel, mesh
straps, and neon-pink piping, came from Gurung's line with
Casadei. Sidebar: Remember when her hair was SO LONG?

The day before the
Oscars, Lawrence attended the Independent Spirit Awards in a slinky, asymmetrical dress with a knotted belt and crystal choker by
Lanvin
(the choker is separate from the dress, FYI). From the front, it
appears to have small cut-outs at the sides—but then this thing goes and
gets RULL sexy in the back, where it's barely held together by some
super thin strings. Jenn finished off her skin-bearing look with a messy
top bun and strappy sandals by
Giuseppe Zanotti.
FEBRUARY 22

Back in October 2012, Lawrence was named the new face of
Miss Dior.
"Her youth and her classic beauty, but also her force of character [in
films] and the complexity she's capable of embodying at such a young
age, are, for me, both unique and very moving,"
said Raf Simons, Dior's creative director. Jenn appeared in two sets of ads for the brand in 2013.
The first
came out in February and raised a LOT of eyebrows for its overzealous
Photoshopping. Don't get me wrong, the girl looked incredibly chic. But
she also looked incredibly, um, smooth. But the second campaign, which
came out in September, depicted a more bare-faced, believable J. Law
looking effortless with a messy low bun and a classic grey peacoat.

This is the princess dress to end all princess dresses. And boy, did she pick the right night to wear it. At the 2013
Academy Awards, Jennifer
glided down the red carpet in a stunning blush-pink, leaf-print couture ball gown by
Christian Dior. Romantic, dramatic, and incredibly voluminous, Lawrence's form-fitting dress made her look every bit the A-list
Oscar-winner that she'd soon turn out to be. She kept her accessories minimal, with dainty
Chopard jewels, a low bun, and smoky eyes.
MAY 6

At the
2013 Met Gala, where the theme was
Punk: Chaos To Couture, Jennifer Lawrence looked ladylike and decidedly
not punk in another
elegant gown
that came courtesy of Christian Dior. Although if you think about it,
going against the grain/theme is sort of punk? IDK. It was a confusing
theme. Regardless, her retro, navy couture gown looked gorgeous and
sophisticated with the addition of a netted veil and
Brian Atwood-embellished peep-toe pumps. "You too can look like this if you have the designer tell you how to wear it!"
she joked to
Vogue.

Lawrence attended Dior's Haute Couture Fall/Winter fashion show in
Paris this summer and got decked out in a coordinating two-piece outfit
from the designer's 2014 Resort collection. The lines on her pale-pink
crop top continued down the right leg of her pants, which, while
somewhat visually confusing, turned out to be a risk worth taking for
the then 22-year-old. Questionable? Maybe. Enviable? Totally. But
seriously, what do you even call a garment that's a half-culotte hybrid
(which, BTW, we've only seen the likes of
Miley Cyrus wearing since)? Cu-legged? Straight-lottes? #FASHUN

You know you've made it when you land your first
Vogue cover
and it happens to be for the most highly anticipated issue of the year.
(Winning a Best Actress Oscar is ~also~ a pretty good indication, but
this definitely helps clear up ANY discrepancies.) Lawrence landed on
2013's
September issue of
Vogue (which was shot by
Mario Testino) in a look from
Calvin Klein's fall 2013 collection. She sported her
newly shorn bob, a smoky eye, and a single signet pinkie ring. FLAWLESS. Our BFF is growing up so fast! *weeping*
NOVEMBER 6
"Can you imagine getting your hair cut and then finding out on the news?"
Lawrence asked Jon Stewart after she made the chop seen 'round the world. "That was the weirdest thing that's ever happened to me." In November, Jennifer
quietly debuted
a very dramatic pixie cut via her official Facebook page. Granted,
she'd been slowly chopping inches off throughout the year, but this
drastic, textured 'do basically broke the internet, a testament to the
strength of her celebrity.

Va va VOOM. For the Paris premiere of
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,
Jennifer made goth look RULL good in a racy black couture gown by *drum
rolllll* Christian Dior. While the skirt of the dress was lined with
modest, ankle-grazing pleats, the bust featured a sheer, diagonal panel
and a generous helping of sideboob. Is it hot in here or is it just me?
*fans self* Lawrence slicked down her pixie and accessorized the sultry
look with a dazzling diamond
ear cuff and a swipe of crimson lipstick.

For the L.A. premiere of
Catching Fire, Jennifer pulled off her most
daring look of the year: a stunning sheer number from (you guessed it!) Dior Haute Couture. I say
number and not
dress
because it's really more of a bodysuit that just ~happens~ to have a
bunch of see-through lilac fabric covering it. "She's a great actress,
and she's going to constantly evolve,"
Catching Fire's costume designer,
Trish Summerville,
told USA Today
when asked about her choice for the Los Angeles premiere. "And I think
that's going to happen with the films that she does and with the way she
dresses. And cutting her hair. I think it's fantastic."
