The Facts About Stem Cells and Skincare: Is It Right for You?

image: IMAXtree

The use of stem cells have been making headlines for years, but now they're getting even more attention as they've started to be embraced by the beauty industry. We spoke with Linda Nelson, from Lifeline Stem Cell Skin Care, to find out more about stem cell beauty innovations and how they can help achieve younger looking skin. Here are six things we learned.
  1. The vast majority of skincare products that make stem cell claims are based on plant stem cells — fruits, herbs or plants. In humans, stem cells are the body’s repair system. At birth, our bodies have an abundant supply of stem cells. With age, stress and poor diet choices, the number and vitality of stem cells decrease dramatically. This is why using human stem cell ingredients topically supports the health and healing of the skin. Unlike human non-embryonic stem cells, however, the benefits of plant stem cells stop at the plant.

  2. Lifeline Skin Care uses unfertilized human eggs to produce pluripotent, non-embryonic stem cells. The content of these stem cells is rich in potent growth factors and proteins and can aid the skin in cell proliferation and collagen synthesis.

  3. The growth factors found in stem cells provide the messaging molecules necessary to trigger collagen and elastin production, therefore providing the basis for healthier and younger looking skin.

  4. The skin surrounding the eyes is the thinnest skin on the body; because it’s so fragile and weak it’s also the first area to reveal fine lines and wrinkles. With age, the skin around the eyes becomes even thinner. The human stem cell extracts help increase skin thickness in the eye area and make it less vulnerable to premature aging. The natural proteins, peptides and growth factors help stimulate collagen production to firm and tighten skin around the eyes.

  5. Growing cells in the laboratory is known as cell culture. Human parthenogenetic stem cells are created by stimulating the unfertilized eggs with a mixture of chemicals which mimics the role of the sperm, but without introducing any male chromosomes. The activated cells cannot form an embryo, but do start to divide and are transferred to a petri dish that contains a special mixture of nutrients which further supports the cell division in this unspecialized state. The stem cells begin to divide and spread over the surface of the dish. As the stem cells divide and multiply enough to crowd the dish, they are removed and plated into several fresh culture dishes.

  6. If skin is damaged from UV exposure, the skin cell itself will try to repair the damage. If the damage cannot be repaired by the cell, it will die. Stem cells are the repair system for the body; they sit back and wait for the need to replace the cell, if the cell cannot repair itself. In this way, the stem cell recognizes the need for damage repair and replaces the damaged cell with a healthy new one.

The Science of Aging and the Secrets of Forever-Young Skin

Ah, aging. Why is it that some of us tend to look better with age, while others…don't? There are two basic reasons. One has to do with your genetics, which is a complex issue. The best way to understand it simply is to look at how your parents and grandparents have shown their signs of aging. The other has to do with how well you take care of your skin, which if done diligently, can supplant a genetic predisposition toward early signs of aging. Seemingly every week, a new anti-aging product comes on the market, promising a new, special ingredient that turns back the hands of time. Should you trust it? How does skin age, anyway? Read on to find out!

Your Skin's Essential Proteins

When it comes to understanding the aging process, there are three terms us non-dermatologists should know: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Your body has these proteins in spades when you're young. In fact, skin is about 75% collagen during that time.

What They Do

Collagen is a connective tissue that binds together vessels and cartilage, among other things. It's part of your skin matrix that when strong, keeps skin firm and plump. Elastin's job is to keep skin resilient. If you've ever pinched skin on the top of your hand, versus the hand of a senior citizen, you'll see that young skin immediately snaps back whereas older skin does not. That's due to the amount of elastin and its strength. Hyaluronic acid is also part of the skin matrix and works to lock in moisture, also aiding in skin plumpness.

When They Go Away

The human body loses its ability to create these efficiently and in adequate amounts over time. Moisture loss makes skin look dry and papery, making fine lines and wrinkles more obvious, loss of elastin contributes to sagging, as does collagen loss. While you can't ultimately control this process without plastic surgery (the results of which can be iffy), you can help to slow it down. You might be surprised at what a little perseverance early on can do.

What You Can Do

First and foremost, starting in your mid to late twenties, you need to moisturize your skin daily with a moisturizer that has SPF protection. Dermatologists agree that most early signs of aging are due to overexposure to the sun. That hot ball in the sky zaps elastin like no one's business, which is why older sun worshipers have skin that resembles thick, worn out leather. Sadly, I've seen women who dabbled in tanning in their teens, showing early signs of aging compared to those who did not. You do not want to mess with the sun when it comes to your skin. Doctors also agree that wrinkles are essentially caused by repetitive facial movements. We each have our own little ticks, and that's why wrinkles are as individual as fingerprints. Should you stop moving your face? No. But being aware of a frowning habit and fixing it, will have an affect on future wrinkles. Exfoliating your face once per week gets rid of dead skin, helping new skin show on the surface, this alone will make skin look younger, more glowing and will reduce the look of lines, too.
Barring these basic activities (that I swear make a huge difference over time), you can visit a dermatologist for prescription strength skin creams that contain the right amount of collagen-building and moisture-preserving ingredients. Dr. Cynthia Bailey, a California-based dermatologist points out on her site that not only are the ingredients important, but so is their concentration and the stability of their form to see results. If you're not opposed to injectables, these can temporarily restrict muscle movement and plump skin to fill in lines and wrinkles, also done by your dermatologist. Chemical peels work like super strength exfoliants, removing the topmost skin cells so new ones can shine through, also giving a temporarily younger look.

Beware of the Hype

Many drugstore brands make bold claims, but don't deliver exactly what they promise. While they tout having special ingredients like vitamin C, retinol and hyaluronic acid (all related to collagen production), such ingredients are delivered in molecules that are too big to be absorbed by skin. Peptide formulas make claim to having a smaller sized molecules and are more effective, but not a guarantee. Some detractors say that delivered topically, these ingredients don't work at all, and one must try to create collagen from the inside out. They suggest eating foods that contain collagen-building ingredients or taking supplements, but again, have no proven success rate.

The Verdict

Don't despair about false claims. Let it be a lesson that more expensive, doesn't always mean better. And know that regardless of the extra anti-aging power a product promises, its basic moisturizing ingredients used daily will absolutely have an effect on how your skin ages. I never thought I would have use for a sports adage, but when it comes to aging, the best offense is a good defense. Moisturize, exfoliate and protect skin from the sun. Your skin will love you for it. And you'll love it right back.

Little Fixes for Big Beauty Emergencies

image: Getty

What do you do when you feel a zit coming on in the middle of the day, or realize while on a date that you forgot to wear deodorant? What about when you've snagged a nail without your portable mani kit around? These are just a few examples of beauty emergencies that can have serious consequences for your mood. Never fear! Learn these simple fixes for unexpected beauty issues and you'll never be caught feeling less than gorgeous again.

Flaking Polish Problem

There's possibly nothing more annoying than looking down and seeing the first signs (or the last) of flaking polish. Unless you opt for a more expensive gel manicure, flaking after only a few days is often inevitable. How can you fix it fast before that big meeting or lunch date? Make sure you have one of the following on hand: glitter polish or stick on polish strips. Understandably, glitter polish isn't appropriate for all occasions, but its texture can quickly mask flakes. The strips, however, require zero drying time and are easily trimmed. You'll be glad you have them on hand!

Low on Lipstick

You meant to get to Sephora and restock, but it was one of the many things you just happened to forget to do this week. No worries. Dab your lips with cream or powder blush instead. Typical blush colors match up really well with the natural color of lips. They create a natural effect that may not be your favorite color, but will do to emphasize your kisser in a pinch!

Gray Hair Cover Up

It's true that some will recommend mascara for this job, but there are actually root touchup products out there for grays such as Tween-Time ($7) and Alterna Stylist 2 Minute Root Coverup ($24). If you insist on getting your color at the salon, these are good to have on hand during times when life requires you to push back your appointment.

Rough Cuticles

Nothing makes a pair of nails that would otherwise look fine look messed up than dry cuticles. The dry skin becomes hard and starts to lift from the nail, giving that telltale sign that you haven't had a chance to do a mani for a little while. Bummer. Fix it with any oil you can get your hands on, or lotion. One of my favorite ways to fix them is by emptying the contents of a Vitamin E capsule. These capsules are ultra easy to carry and store wherever you go, and don't go bad.

Rainy Day Frizz

Picked the wrong weather day to wear your locks au naturale? Again, not a problem. Regular old hand lotion, used sparingly, will tame fly-aways. So will a small bottle of any number of serums you can buy at the drugstore and keep around, but those only have one purpose, whereas the lotion has many.

Zit Be Gone

By about age 17, a girl can tell when a doozy of a zit is coming her way. There's redness, maybe an itch or tingle, or even pain when she touches a small area of her face. If you can find an ice cube and a lemon or lemon juice nearby, you may be able to prevent the blemish from breaking through. Rub the cube on it, to take down swelling. Then dab on lemon juice; its astringent properties will dry out the problem. (Just don't expose the area to the sun as lemon juice can cause discoloration.)

Oops, Forgot Deodorant!

Here's another little issue that a lemon will fix right up. If you've gotten to work and realized you forgot deodorant that morning, rubbing a cut lemon or dabbing lemon juice under your arms will prevent odor. Just be careful you don't have any open cuts or nicks from the razor under those arms! Ouch.

Greasy Summer Bangs and Roots

Left your big can of dry shampoo at home? Prefer to keep it there? Buy a mini bottle of hairspray or fill up a mini travel size bottle and use it when you've noticed that a couple days without washing your hair is making it look a little too shiny. The alcohol in hairspray will absorb extra oil.

9 Bad Habits That Are Ruining Your Hair..

Preventing-future-hair-lossWhile hair loss may be the absolute last thing on your mind right now, the reality of the matter is, one day many of us will experience thinning hair. Eek! Here’s what you can do to help ensure your locks look as healthy, thick and gorgeous as possible for decades to come.

1. Steer clear of tight hairstyles

Yep, that means no slicked back ponytails, super tight buns or braids. “Traction over long periods of time can lead to inflammation of the root of the hair and ultimately hair loss,” points out Dr. Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research in the department of dermatology at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City.

2. Go easy on the flat iron

Seriously! Be kind to your hair, and don’t overuse your flat iron, warns board-certified dermatologist and author of Skin Rules, Debra Jaliman. “If you continue go over the same piece of hair with a straightener you're going to eventually cause bad breakage.” And as you know, breakage leads to hair loss.

3. Quit chemically processing your hair

Why is it so terrible for your tresses? Well, because chemicals to color, curl or straighten your hair into a non-natural situation do so by breaking and recreating molecular bonds, explains board certified dermatologist and founder of Art of Dermatology Dr. Jessica Krant. “This is a serious chemical reaction that can be caustic and damaging to the scalp and follicles themselves. After several years of processing, some women lose the ability to grow hair permanently.”

4. Get supplemental help

According to L.A.-based dermatologist Dr. Alex Khadavi, creator of Advanced Skin & Hair, gelatin supplements are being used more frequently now to make locks look healthier and also to complement hair loss treatments. “Studies have shown that large doses help support healthier looking, beautiful strands with no side effects.” He recommends taking around 2-3 grams per day. You can easily find gelatin supplements at your local drug store.

5. Don’t mess around with your hormones

Did you know that going on and off birth control pills disrupts your body's natural hormonal balance in both directions? “Starting some pills leads to thinner hair, while stopping others can have the same effect,” says Dr. Krant. “Consult carefully with your doctor before starting a new birth control pill if you already have thin hair and don't want to make it worse.”

6. Protect your hair from the sun

Remember to wear a hat or use a quality SPF spray on your locks. When hair is exposed to the sun over a prolonged period of time, it dries it out, making it more prone to breakage. Plus, the UV light from the sun can damage bonds and weaken strands as well, notes Jaliman.

7. Manage your stress

Believe it or not, stress is a major cause of hair loss. Women’s hair restoration specialist Lucinda Ellery advises finding something that calms you down (whether it be a new hobby or sport or something as simple as a massage) and making it a regular part of your life.

8. Minimize heat styling

“Heat doesn't only damage your hair strands, drying them out and creating bubbles (from boiling!) under the smooth cuticle that causes a loss of sheen, but it also can damage your hair follicles too, making them less able to grow healthy hair long term,” says Krant. “So no sitting under dryers, ladies! If you must use a hair dryer, only dry the middle third of the shaft, avoiding heat on your roots and tips.”

9. Eat a well-balanced diet.

For beautiful hair from the inside out, be sure to eat a well-balanced diet consisting of food rich in iron, beta carotene, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, zinc and biotin, suggests Ellery.

Eat Your Way to Gorgeous, Young-Looking Skin...

There may be debate as to the degree, but there's no question that a large part of the health of our skin is a reflection of our diet. If you're consistently consuming fatty, sugary and processed foods, your skin will, in all likelihood, be inflamed and uneven in texture. For healthy, glowing skin, consider adding these nourishing beauty foods to your diet.
  1. Chia seeds: While flax seeds have been getting a lot of attention, chia seeds actually have the most Omega-3s out of all plant-based sources. Omega-3s are essential fatty acids that are key for keeping skin hydrated because they work to repair the protective barrier that keeps moisture locked in. The Chia Company makes a number of great chia and chia-based products.
  2. Salmon: A potent non-vegetarian source of Omega-3s is salmon — ideally, wild salmon. It's considered one of the healthiest sources of protein and its Omega-3s will work to keep skin inflammation at bay.
  3. Antioxidant-rich foods: Fruits and spices (especially cinnamon and ginger) are high in the antioxidants necessary to maintain youthful skin since they help fight the free-radical damage that leads to fine lines, wrinkles, uneven tone and loss of firmness.
  4. Leafy greens: Greens like kale, watercress, swiss chard and spinach are high in Vitamin A, which has been shown to help lower the production of oil that causes breakouts.
  5. Lemons: High in Vitamin C, lemons help support collagen production. Drink hot water with lemon first thing in the morning to help flush out toxins and help keep skin hydrated.
  6. Nuts and pumpkin seeds: Most nuts and pumpkin seeds are high in Biotin, which is the active found in most hair, nail and skin supplements.
  7. Non-dairy yogurt: The probiotics found in yogurt help promote a healthy gut — key for optimal digestion. When the digestive system isn't working properly, our body has little energy left over for other critical functions like rebuilding collagen. That said, research has shown that dairy can cause acne, so it's best to stick with non-dairy yogurts that are high in probiotics like So Delicious.
  8. Cucumbers: High in water, a key for healthy skin.
  9. Green tea: A number of studies have shown that green tea can help fight the signs of aging, while helping to tame inflammation.
  10. Pears: High in B vitamins, eating pears will help fight free radicals and keep blood flow healthy, two critical contributors to youthful skin.

the dos and donts of perfectly bronzed and contoured skin

bronzer-c
Yes, it's summer and yes, the desire for a "healthy" glow is stronger now than, say, in December. But bronzing your skin isn't just about creating a healthy complexion without the sun. Bronzer is also essential for one of Hollywood's favorite and oft used makeup tricks: contouring. How to do it right? It's easer than you think. Below are seven dos and don'ts that will have your facial structure on display and your skin looking luminous, dewy and kissed by the sun.

Do Stick to Your Shade

The desire for deep dark color you could never get on your own can be strong, resist. Don't go more than three shades darker than your natural skin tone when you're picking out your bronzer palette. Check out the underside of your wrists. If the veins are green, you're warm-toned. If your veins look purple or blue, you're cool toned. Pick warm and cool bronzers accordingly. Comparing two or three side-by-side will make their cool or warm qualities easier to determine. Warm will have a tera cotta (touch of red or orange) look. Cool bronzers won't.

Don't Forget to Account for Skin Type

There are so many bronzers on the market these days, you'll have more to consider than just the color. For example, there are cream bronzers and powder, as well as shimmery (those with sparkle) and matte (those without). If your skin is dry, a cream bronzer will give you a dewy glow. If your skin is oily, best to stick with a mineral powder. If you want some shimmer, best to use it at night, on special occasions, and leave it off your forehead, no matter when you wear it.

bronzer-how-toDo Count on the Recession

When it comes to application, realize that whatever part of your face you apply bronzer with is going to recede visually, making the area next to it pop out. So you want to apply under your cheekbone (never on top), around your hairline and the outermost edge of your face, on either side of your nose (never the bridge), just under your nose (above the center of your top lip) and just under the center of your bottom lip. Do not veer from these areas of application and you'll be contouring just right.

Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough

Start with a light touch, tapping the brush to remove excess bronzer if you're using powder, and build up from there. Too little and you've wasted your time. Be patient. With practice you'll be able to get it right in no time.

Don't Forget Bared Shoulders and Chest

A bronzed, face might look amazing, until you get down to a pasty shoulder and decolletage. Lightly brush or tap bronzer on the outside of your shoulders, in between your breasts, and on the inside of your clavicle bones. Think of where the sun would naturally hit.

Do Be Careful About Your Brush Size

There's no perfect set of brushes to do this with, and you can certainly use your fingers to tap and blend if you wish. Just be aware that you want to use a medium to large brush for your cheek bones and facial perimeter and then switch to a small brush for the nose and mouth area. Use your bigger brush for any bronzer that goes below your jawline.

Don't Cake on Extras

By applying primer and/or foundation and then bronzer, you run the risk of a cakey Real Housewives look by applying much more on top of it. So keep it light. If you feel the need to use blush, a light cream or mineral tap will do ya. A little swipe of liquid illuminator on top of your cheekbones will add to your glow, but skip it if you've gone with that shimmery bronzer for an occasion.

tips and ideas for a long hair

Your guy may not notice your hair has been trimmed half an inch, but trust us, he definitely notices your hair! We surveyed a few gents (and the ladies too) on the first few things people immediately notice about your hair. Here’s the top four.
hair impressions1. Your Length
Whether it’s long, short or in between, one of the first things people will notice about your hair is its length. And, it’s something people use to form opinions about you too. Short and sassy may imply strength and confidence while super long locks give off a feminine vibe.
2. Your Roots
Believe it or not, one of the first things men and women notice about your hair is your roots! More specifically, whether or not they are in dire need of a touch up. If you’re dying your hair or already getting grays, make sure you stay on top of the color maintenance by scheduling appointments every six to eight weeks. Letting your roots get out of control sends the message that you don’t pay attention to details and are lazy about your appearance.
3. Your Cleanliness
Thinking about skipping a hair wash? Yes, everyone can tell. Oily roots rank high on the list of things people first notice about your hair. If you’re really in a pinch, spritz some dry shampoo on your roots to soak up some of that oil. Or, try a hat.
4. Your Style
Short and sassy or long and layered, your actual hairstyle is something people take notice of. In combination with your hair length, it’s also something people use to make judgement about your personality. A complicated hairstyle may send the message “I’m high maintenance!” while a more relaxed style tells people you’re easy going.

6 common skincare ingredients you should avoid

image: Getty

Did you know that your skin absorbs up to 60% of whatever you put on it? And the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lists many ingredients found in skincare products as toxic? Though the names can be hard to pronounce, it's worth it to become familiar with some of these unwanted skincare additives that have been tested to be precursors to cancer, infertility, birth defects and skin allergies. Why this is allowed is an article for another day, and perhaps worth a letter to your congressperson. In the meantime, jot down these skincare no-no ingredients to make sure you're keep your body healthy and happy!

Parabens

Parabens have become the most recent hot-button bad ingredient. As a result, you'll see a lot of products that are listed as paraben free. Stick to those because plenty of products still carry them. Used as a preservative, studies have shown these guys can cause hormonal imbalances in women as well as early puberty and infertility in men. Parabens have also been found inside female breast cancer tumors!

Benzoyl Peroxide

If this sounds familiar, it might be because you've seen it listed in many acne-fighting creams. It may clear blemishes but unfortunately the side effects aren't worth it! It causes DNA damage in both humans and animals, and it's considered a "mutagen." That's an agent that promotes the growth of tumors.

Triclosan

This is a well known synthetic anti-bacterial ingredient, so be sure to check all products that have anti-bacterial on the label. What does it do? Well, it's officially registered with the EPA as a pesticide and causes harm to humans and the environment. It's one of those chemicals that has a high potential to be cancer-causing. Tufts University has said Triclosan is capable of creating "super bugs" that we can't control. Scary stuff. Check out hand soap and toothpaste labels carefully.

Isopropyl Alcohol

Also called SD-40, this stuff is in a wide range of products from hair and skincare ingredients to fragrances. It's even in shellac and antifreeze. This ultra drying agent will remove the natural immune barrier of your skin, making it more vulnerable to things like mold, bacteria and viruses. It can also cause premature aging. It can accelerate the absorption of other harmful skin agents, too. It's fatal if one ounce or less is ingested. That should tell you to stay far, far away from it.

MEA (Monoethanolamine), DEA (diethanolamine) and TEA (triethanolamine)

All of these ingredients are banned in Europe as known carcinogens (cancer causers). Not so, in the United States. You'll find these three lovelies in shampoos, shaving creams and bubble baths. These are so common that speculations predict the average American can be exposed to them up to 20 times per day. Ouch.

Mineral Oil

If you've got a bottle of baby oil in your home, you've also got a bottle of mineral oil, which is 100% what baby oil is made from. This is a petroleum byproduct that coats skin like plastic and clogs pores. It also slows down cell development and can speed up skin aging. What should you use instead? Vegetable oils (such as jojoba and olive) are much healthier.

to maintain your figure...here are things you should and shouldnt eat

Common sense would dictate to most of us that if you're feeling bloated, it's best to avoid any sparkling beverages (they release carbon dioxide, which causes bloating) and salty foods because they make you retain water. There are, however, plenty of other foods that can be causing your stomach to balloon and, more importantly, plenty that can reduce that full stomach feeling. Here's a look at which foods can cause and which can reduce bloating.

Possible Bloating Culprits

  • Dairy products: Dairy products including milk, cheese, yogurt and ice cream can cause bloating. Opt for almond, coconut or rice milk-based products instead if you sense a possible lactose intolerance (try to avoid soy, which is a controversial ingredient).
  • Vegetables and fruits: Certain fruits and vegetables including apples, pears, bananas, raisins, asparagus, potatoes, brussel sprouts, cabbage, broccoli and lentils contain complex sugars and starches that are hard to break down. Obviously, these are not foods you want to eliminate from your diet, so try cooking the greens instead as this will help your body digest them more readily and cut down on portion sizes when it comes to fruit (and mix in ones not known to cause bloating, like berries).
  • Beans: They contain a type of sugar, oligosaccharide, which is not normally digestible by our bodies so when it reaches the large intestine, it gets eaten up by bacteria causing bloating. Soaking beans has been shown to lower the amount of oligosaccharide without affected nutritional value.
  • Chewing gum: When you chew gum you end up swallowing air, which will leave you feeling bloaty. It gets worse if you opt for sugar-free gum as those often contain sorbitol and xylitol, which are fermented by bacteria in the gut causing further bloating.
  • Fatty foods: Fat slows down digestion, giving food more time to ferment.
  • Artificial sweeteners: Artificial sweeteners like sorbitol can't be digested, making them a common culprit. In addition to sodas, gum and candy, you can often find them in low calorie foods.
  • Spicy foods: These stimulate the release of stomach acid.

Beat the Bloat

  • Cranberries: They're a natural diuretic so they'll help flush out excess fluids.
  • Ginger: One of the most common anti-inflammatories.
  • Green tea: An anti-inflammatory that also works to rev up your metabolism.
  • Cucumber: A go-to ingredient in eye creams, they will work to reduce stomach swelling as well.
  • Whole grains: Those who have a gluten intolerance aside, whole grain are great because they're high in fiber.
  • Water: It will help the digestive process by moving things through the intestines.
  • Raw apple cider vinegar: It's high in minerals and potassium, which promote cellular cleansing and helps break down food.
  • Coconut water: Like raw apple cider vinegar, it's high in potassium, which will help flush out sodium from the body, thereby reducing bloating.
  • Pineapples: They contain an enzyme called bromelain, which aids the digestive process.

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT MASCARA ...beauty tips

image: IMAXtreeWe all want our eyes to allure, to pop; we want our lashes to speak volumes without say a word, right? Otherwise, we wouldn't focus so much on mascara, and the mascara industry wouldn't be such big business. You've seen the commercials with the name brand models and actresses whose lashes are out to there. We all can't help but wonder whether the latest "high-tech" mascara will give us the same glamorous results. Is there really a secret beyond being born with natural long eye lashes? Or keeping falsies close at hand? With a little bit of research I've found out the answers to some of these burning questions. Hint: most of it is how you wear it.

Color Mix

These days, mascara comes in a rainbow of colors, which is awesome for those of us who like to experiment and wear a wild look from time to time. But what about incorporating color for extra effect that works at the office? Makeup pros mix brown and black, usually black on top and brown on the bottom to make eyes pop. Black on top and magenta on the bottom gives a subtle effect that flatters all eye colors.

Application Don'ts

According to makeup artist Kate Lee who spoke to Allure, most mascaras are only meant to be coated twice, so skip that fifth application. Always wait a few seconds for one coat to set before applying another. Use gentle pressure and wiggle the wand at the base of the lashes before moving upward to the tips.

Expiration Dates

We all keep our mascaras for far too long. If you can't remember when you bought it, toss it. Buying a new tube every few months is a good habit to form. Don't pump the wand to reapply the formula to the brush, this forces extra air into the tube that wears your mascara out faster.

Choose Your Effect(s)

Different brushes (and formulas) usually give you one stand-out effect. So it pays to have more than one mascara in your arsenal. Use one type for the first coat, and another for the second. While most packages will tell you what their special effect is, here's some extra info: for long, soft lashes, go for a package that promises zero clumps. Thin brushes are ideal for bottom lashes. You'll notice fat brushes with flexibility and plastic bristles give volume, as they have more coating surface area. For lashes like a doll, choose a fast-drying formula that holds the bend you put in with your lash curler. For out-there lashes that are truly outrageous, try TOO FACED Better Than False Lashes. First you brush on one coat, then a second coat of special nylon fibers and finish with a third coat. Perfect for going out.

Read the Label

We've all been frustrated with mascara that smudges and bleeds. According to WebMD, if you check out the placement of water as an ingredient on the label, you can avoid such formulas. The lower water is on the ingredient list, the less water it contains, which means the more you can trust its staying power. Waterproof mascaras typically have less water, but be careful, don't go for one that doesn't contain any water, they're especially hard to get off and can damage your lashes in the process.

Oversized Earrings – Tips and Ideas

Jennifer-Lopez10
Summer is the season of colors, jewelry and statement fashion. Part of summer are the oversized earrings-which have been a hot trend for nearly two decades now. It doesn’t matter what shape, style, colors or material you choose, oversized earrings are a beautiful piece of jewelry that can make anyone look trendy. I am in love with oversized earrings and have just purchased a pair filled with white crystals! Below I have collected some great tips for you all to try and wear them the best way possible. I know that for many women think that oversized earrings are too much to dare but believe me, once you try them the right way, you will always love them.
Tips and Ideas:
1-Matching your face shape with your earrings shape. For example, if you have a long narrow face, choose a pair of long earrings with heavy details at the end, maybe a butterfly, crystal, something shinny or whatever you might like.
2-Stop matching your earrings with the rest of your outfit. I know this may sound a bit contradictory from everything else you have read about fashion, but one thing I have learned so far is that too much combination can ruin someone’s outfit and looks. I am not saying you should go for a pair of classic oversized earrings when wearing sportive clothes, but for example when wearing the 70′s earring styles, match them with a floral dress or something casual.
3-Neon accessories are a hot trend right now, and if this fashion has already captivated your wardrobe then why not add a pair of oversized neon earrings to complete the looks. I would recommend neon jewelry only as part of your day outfit.
4- But most important of all tips, keep the hair away when wearing oversized earrings. Which means style your hair into a pony tail, donut bun or anything else you like.
5- Don’t buy jewelry and save them for important events- buy them to use everyday. Fashion changes all time and so will your wardrobe.

252649_364077560327772_1418839048_nI believe we all love necklaces-no matter the gender- we love having a shinny beautiful jewellery in our neck; but for this season women’s fashion brings the oversized necklaces!
Oversized necklaces are perfect for spring/summer because the season itself it gives you the opportunity to dress bold and over do it with big jewellery; you can wear big sized necklaces as part of your daily outfit or clubbing! You can easily combine them with casual outfit or a fancy dress, depending on the necklace material and style.
Oversized necklaces are a focal point that give you the opportunity to look dramatic and edgy; you can go for silver or gold material, or even wood necklace-which are very hot for beach .
Neon and coral colors are the hot trend for this summer 2013; and there’s no better way to combine an envelope bag, dress or shoes with same color as necklace, and when it’s oversized it will grab more attention;
There are so many different and unique styles you can go for, from crystals, colors, silver, rhinestone or wooded; everything that suits your personal style;
I brought together some of the hottest trend for this season of oversized necklaces, have a look and stay stylish!486056_463933007008893_1197564893_n523118_381789945223200_1813793268_n524439_370124089723119_1328987485_n542842_454747867927407_1993458677_n602952_459928790742648_195755426_n734677_429548153780712_2085382061_n1343783006160090blog_makefor_colares_271_gr_largeblue-cute-fashion-love-necklace-Favim.com-313464necklaces-summer-2012-the-most-beautiful-models-2-550x359originalDSC_0033tumblr_lkb9701t8W1qc1l04tumblr_lp5zamRUJ11qcmy8fo1_500_largeSONY DSCtumblr_lzrvxiJOJq1r5numeo1_500tumblr_m4kfm9fdxi1qd7p3ro1_500ECFB Unleashedtumblr_m73wf3wkpo1r32t61
