It was a big year for short hair. Models, singers, and actresses
all made drastic chops to their 'dos, or at least toyed with the idea.
In early 2013, Karlie Kloss' bob was named the haircut of 2012,
but this year, stylish women dared to go even shorter. Here are some
contenders for the Best Haircut award, though I'm not sure what the
prize is. Sorry, ladies.
JENNIFER LAWRENCE

Considering her most popular role has its own signature braid, Jennifer Lawrence's pixie cut was totally unexpected. More expected? How good she looks with a new length. J.Law had long hair throughout awards season, which she wore up, down, and to the side to collect her multiple awards for her role in
Silver Linings Playbook.
In April, she chopped her locks off into a lob (long bob, FYI), and in November, she went full platinum pixie. Her
Hunger Games: Catching Fire red carpet style
has been taking advantage of her hair's bold new ~edge~, and we can't
wait to see how she styles her 'do for each award show at the top of
2014.
BEYONCÉ

Beyoncé also
chopped off all her hair
in 2013, though she only lived with the short style for a few days. The
pixie opened the door for at least one other short 'do: an
A-line bob. Bey's mane, though glorious, has been long, blonde, and capable of getting
stuck in fans
for QUITE a while, so the drastic change was shocking, to say the
least. The pixie, though brief, was a refreshing reminder that no matter
what her hair looks like, she will still be Beyoncé, a woman who can
wear
two different pizza prints at once.
SHAILENE WOODLEY

Shailene Woodley made the most drastic chop in 2013, taking her chest-length locks to right under her ears. Shailene documented her haircut
on Twitter, explained why she's kept her hair as long as the she has in a
thoughtful Tumblr essay
(who knew Tumblr could be used for anything more than GIFs, right?),
and created a helpful hashtag for anyone who decides to cut their hair:
#itgrowsback. Sure, it grows back, Shailene, but you pull off short hair
so well, you may wanna keep it for a while.
SELENA GOMEZ

So
Selena Gomez
didn't actually cut her hair off in 2013, but she has been wearing a
bobbed black wig from time to time, which leads us to believe she may be
flirting with the idea. Selly first wore the short wig in a
magazine spread for Flaunt
and seems to have liked the blunt coiffure enough to poach the wig from
set, or buy a very similar one to wear on stage. Bangs and a bob would
be quite a change for Selena, who has had long waves for as long as we
can remember. New year, new 'do, Selena? We know you've been thinking
about it.
COCO ROCHA

As is now customary for any major life event,
Coco Rocha kept her hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers in the loop about her haircut by
live-Instagramming her time
in the swivel chair. Coco's cut was just before New York Fashion Week,
where her short hair differentiated her from the sea of long-maned
models. Coco posts photos of the various ways her short hair is styled
(serving up major short-hair inspiration), but our fave (obviously), is
the 2009
Justin Bieber swoop, which she totally nailed.
RIHANNA

Rihanna has had A LOT of hairstyles this year. She kicked off the year with
golden ombre, dabbled in
shades of blonde, went
gray, got a
mullet, and
wrapped her hair. In the midst of all these changes was a
short-lived curly 'do, which was preserved for posterity on
her Glamour cover. While she returned to long hair for a little while, she recently debuted a
blunt bob, so maybe 2014 will be a full calendar year of short hair for badgalriri? We'll see!
